THIS ISSUE: How you got your MONEYTUDE and what to do about it
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WOW!
I knew I had hit on something when
less than 5 minutes after I sent my
request for help on Sunday I had 10
responses to the survey.
As I write this I've had 1341 people
participate. I've NEVER had that kind
of response to anything. Even that
time I gave away $100 bills only 3
people responded. :>)
Here are the stats...
1) As a child, around your home, when
money was discussed were the words
used:
Negative
645 47.96%
I never heard about money
464 34.50%
Positive
232 17.55%
2) Thinking about your money situation
NOW... would you say it's:
So-So
607 45.10%
Negative 413 30.68%
Positive 321 24.22%
The last two questions were:
3) Why do you think your money situation
NOW (good or bad) is like it is?
4) What are some of the phrases you
recall hearing about money while
you were growing up?
'Money doesn't grow on trees' appeared
348 times. My favorite variation was
'IF money grew on trees, they (meaning
the rich) would have more trees!'
The name Rockefeller appeared twice as did
the slang term for a body part not known
for dispensing money.
Now I don't think this is a scientific
survey by any means. But here is my
analysis of the stats:
If we make the assumption that not hearing
about money while growing up is a negative,
then over 80% of the folks responding began
life with a negative MONEYTUDE.
If we make the assumption that answering 'So-So'
to 'how is your money situation now?' is really a
negative, then over 75% of the folks responding
STILL have a negative MONEYTUDE.
And when you read some of the things we heard
about money it's no wonder any of this is true.
We had some really creative parents in the
group:
+Only bad people and lawyers have money
+Wish in one hand, spit in the other one
and see which one fills up fastest
+Use it up, wear it out, make it do or
do without
+Money is the enemy of happiness
+People save money to be show-offs
+Don't trust money it can be sinful
+Rich people are willing to sacrifice
others to make and keep their money.
+They hold the handle and you hold the
blade
And then my all-time favorite...so far
(I've only been through about 500).
'After something special, my father
would aways say, 'Well, it's back to
peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
tomorrow!' I never saw him eat one!'
Huh.
I had PB & J for lunch almost exclusively
while growing up. Except that one time
we were out of PB and my father gave us
all jelly and CREAM CHEESE. Yuck!
Maybe that was a delicacy in the 40s and
50s but all 5 Quinn kids are STILL
traumatized by it from the 80s.
But I digress...
No-doubt some of these responses have made
you chuckle or cringe. As adults we have
that perspective.
Our parents probably grew up hearing the
same from theirs.
What we can do is resolve to break free
of this negative programming starting
right NOW!
I'll do my part by bringing you helpful
articles, strategies, tips and information
that helped ME improve my MoneyTude
dramatically in about 6 months back in 2004.
You do your part by participating, getting
your friends and family involved and
having a fun time doing it.
Anytime you 'hear' that old negative
programming pop up, beat it down with
'I've got a NEW MONEYTUDE!'
Need a song to sing?
Forget 'Zippity Doo-Dah'...replace
that with 'Zippity MOOLAH'. Instead
of 'sunshine' heading your way make
it 'plenty of money heading my way'.
I'm serious. I heard Trump sings that
song every morning while someone shaves
him. (The rich don't shave themselves.)
Do that for a month and report back your
results.
Meanwhile, here is a good article called
'The Power of Your Thoughts'

If you carry a balance on your credit cards I've
got a fun and easy experiment you can try at:

You'll help yourself and all the folks on this
list by participating so please join in!
That's enough for this week. Oh...and that thing
about Trump singing? I don't think that's right!
:>)
Thank you again for reading.

P.S. The first thing I ever bought online was a book by Jim
Daniels on the topic of email. I think that was way back in
1998.
Jim is still putting out great stuff and you can learn a lot just
by watching him. He has a new report called 'The New Age

Thanks for the link to Emergency Cas*h Generators! I don't
usually
fall for such things, since most of them are rip-offs, but I took a
chance on this one because the link came from you. And I love
it!
The ideas are original and clever. There's an idea there for
just
about anyone -- extravert or introvert -- and it's triggered so
many additional ideas of my own! LuAnn.
