The author of one of the newsletters I read has an interesting
method for setting goals.  Michael Masterson starts each year
making one significant goal in each of the four most important
areas of life:

1. Your health
2. Your wealth
3. Your personal self (hobbies and interests)
4. Your social self (friends, family, and community)

He says make each goal "significant, yet specific."
And he says studies show that people who make formal goals and
write them down accomplish them more often.  This has worked for me
in dramatic fashion the last couple years so I'm going to do it
again.



I review my goals at least three times per day...morning, noon and
night and I try to take at least one step toward each goal every
day.  The size of the step doesn't matter.  

What's that saying?..."the journey of a million miles begins with a
single step?"  Take that step.

1. Health goals: Lose weight, gain weight, exercise, eat better,
see a doctor, walk a mile a day, drink more water

2. Wealth goals: Double your income, start a business, quit your
job, look for a better job, study investing, take a class, pay off
bad debt

3. Personal goals: Piano lessons, singing lessons, read a book a
week, write a chapter a week, stop procrastinating, take more
pictures, learn a foreign language, sky dive

4. Friends, family & community goals: Donate 10% of your incomme to
charity, volunteer, plan a reunion, call a long lost friend

So take a few minutes today or tomorrow and figure out just one
major goal in each of these four areas for 2006.  Don't try and
figure out how you'll achieve them, the important thing is to get
them down on paper.

And trust me, this time next year, you'll be happy you started
today.
