Hi!

I hope you are enjoying your Summer.  Here in the Saratoga Springs,
NY area we are gearing up for another thoroughbred racing season.
The owners of the Triple Crown spoiler, Birdstone, live in this
area at least part of the year, so that in itself brings a lot of
excitement. 



As a 14 year-old I lost my last $40 at the betting
windows so I don't usually bet when I go but it's a fun day to
people watch.  Funny how early experiences can shape you, huh?

Anyway, I've got an interesting experiment for you to try if you
are married or work two or more jobs.  Last week I did a workshop
in central MA and one of the attendees told me an interesting
story.  Her husband had been out of work for a time, caused by a
work injury, not sure how long but I think about a year, so they
had been living on only her income.  Funny thing was they could do
it without ANY drastic changes to their lifestyle!  No cancelling
the cable TV or computer.  No buying two ply toilet tissue and
pulling the plys apart to get two rolls out of one.  None of that.

She was ASTOUNDED.  She couldn't figure out how that could happen.
When her husband was working, and earning his full income, they
didn't have any extra money.  Where did it all go?  He'll be back
to work soon and she is very excited at the thought of how fast her
debts will be paid off now that she knows they can live on one
income.

So your experiment is to try it.  If your household has two or more
incomes try for 30 days to live on just one.  Pretend you HAVE to
do it.  Someday you might really have to and this will be great
training.  Get the whole family involved.  Only one income?  Try to
live on 1/2 or 3/4. 

We all tend to expand our lifestyle to our income and that is why
getting in financial trouble is so easy and fast. 

This whole story points out another good idea...having multiple
streams of income.



Right now I have four different ways I earn money.  Maybe 5 or 6.
One of those sources is VERY slow right now compared with the rest
of the year.  That would normally have me very worried but 3 of the
other streams are doing better than they usually do the rest of the
year.  Lucky me, yes, but these streams didn't fall into my lap,
I've had to work at getting them set up but you can do the same
thing.
