HOW
TO REACH YOUR GOALS 100%
OF THE TIME GUARANTEED!! Goal setting is a popular topic this time of year. Income goals...weight goals...exercise goals... goals
goals goals. Have you had any luck reaching goals in the
past? Probably not. Me either!
Five year plans? Fuggedabout it.
I've replaced traditional goals with ACTION
goals. Things I KNOW I can do. Things I KNOW if I
do and stick with, my life will improve.
I KNOW I can carve out 15 minutes a day to practice
the piano
I KNOW I can eat only 2000 calories a day
I KNOW I can walk for an hour a day
I KNOW I can limit my TV watching to only 1 hour per
day
I KNOW I can read for 30 minutes a day
You get the idea.
I don't know what the ultimate result of all these
actions will be but I do KNOW my life and health will improve because
of them.
So, don't set goals which will just discourage you
when you don't accomplish them. Instead set goals you KNOW
you can reach...ACTION GOALS.
Make them SMALL. So small you'd have to be
on your death bed not to be able to do it.
Make it a goal to do "X" at least 5 or 10 minutes a day. Now, that may seem ridiculous, but a few days or weeks of doing it will give you a tremendous sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. At that point, you can reassess and decide if you want to go longer. Last year, it was one of my goals to practice the piano at least 20 minutes per day and until my 13 day trip in October, I stuck with it. Sometimes, I divided the 20 minutes into two 10 minute chunks, but I normally got it done. After 30 plus years of wanting to be proficient on the piano, I'm getting pretty good, and can bang out a pretty good "Country Roads". This year I'm going to send at least one thank you note per day to someone. I'm also going to make daily deposits to one of my savings accounts. Internet banking makes this very easy. Even if it's only one dollar, that is one dollar that is working for me. If you've reached every goal you've ever set then congratulations! If not, give this method a try and let me know what you think! And remember, no matter what day of the year you may read this consider it the first day of a new year. return to the newsletter by clicking here |
